Hindalco bags the coveted AIOE (FICCI) Award for Outstanding Industrial Relations

Hindalco Industries, the flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group has been named the winner of the "AIOE Industrial Relations Award" for its exemplary record in industrial relations, social security and for promoting bi-partism for the year 2002-03.

This prestigious award is given by the All India Organisation of Employers (AIOE), an allied body of FICCI, for promoting orderly development of sound industrial relations. In its citation for Hindalco, the AIOE remarks, "The Hindalco management believes in adopting pro-active collective bargaining measures through long-term settlements entered into with the three recognized trade unions. An effective grievance redressal mechanism avoided even a single day strike / lock out during the last 28 years, which is a landmark achievement. Industrial relations situation continues to be harmonious based on mutual trust, open communication and participative culture".

Mr. P K Panda, Joint President (HR) from Hindalco Industries, along with the company's union office bearers recently received the award from Union Labour Minister Dr. Sahib Singh Verma.

The award was instituted by AIOE in its golden jubilee year of establishment in 1983 for outstanding contribution and innovative work done in the filed of industrial relations. Some of the proud recipients of the award in the past include IOC, BHEL, GAIL, TISCO, NTPC, ONGC, Mather & Platt (I) (2000-01) and Sundaram Fasteners (2001-2002).

Hindalco was recently awarded the prestigious Asian Corporate Social Responsibility Award in 2003 from the Asian Institute of Management. In 2002, the company received the FICCI Award for family planning while in the year 2001, the company was conferred the Award for Rural Development.
