Further, Novelis has been advocating the use of recycled aluminium since it requires only 5% of the energy needed to produce primary aluminium. In 2013, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) became one of the first automakers to collaborate with Novelis to utilise an aluminium alloy solution with a high recycled content. The collaboration enabled over $1 million in savings and an 80% reduction in CO2 equivalent emissions over standard road transport.Novelis has also worked with other automotive giants in CLR integration. Ford, for instance, recycles over 90% of its scrap using Novelis’ CLR system. Nissan has implemented CLR across its US and UK facilities. Audi, BMW and Volvo are also implementing it in their European operations.&nbsp;Novelis’ CLR system is a rare example of collaborative value-generation that bridges the needs of all stakeholders. What sets the campaign apart is its social responsibility angle. People celebrate the act of jumping as they realise how this simple act can make someone else's life better. The reason: for every 10,000 jumps, ABHICL donates a prosthetic leg for the differently-abled.As the world went digital in the post-pandemic era, the #JumpForHealth campaign took on a deeper meaning as it invited people to become more aware of their physical health. In the 2022 edition, the #JumpForHealth campaign followed the 'freedom' theme, encouraging people to adopt positive habits for healthy living.Through the years, the campaign has sparked much love and excitement. In 2022, over a span of 40 days, 5,455 participants contributed more than 8,956,200 jumps! This historic achievement was even captured in a new Guinness World Record as the 'Largest online video album of people jumping in the air'. As a result of this overwhelming public response, 895 prosthetic legs were donated to help the differently-abled walk again!Celebrities like Sanjay Dutt, Mandira Bedi, and Remo D'Souza have actively participated and encouraged others to jump along with them. Since it began, the campaign has received over 32.62 million jumps and ABHICL has donated 3,262 prosthetic legs, thus forever changing thousands of lives.The campaign's feel-good, feel-healthy message builds enduring bonds in the community. It's a passion that extends beyond the individual and encompasses community health and well-being.

Hindalco's relentless focus on shaping new horizons of growth is revolutionising the global metals industry.Many of these innovations are designed to cater to the B2B segment. For instance, Hindalco has developed a tough new alloy called Duranium that gives windows as much as 35% greater strength as compared to existing options.A new aluminium zirconium alloy is used in HTLS wire rods to make power conductors more efficient. A unique deep white, clean, and translucent alumina hydrate, branded ONYX, finds application in the cast polymer industry.When the pandemic created demand for stronger semi-rigid containers, Hindalco’s team developed 3SRC, a new alloy with higher strength and a lower energy footprint. With this exercise, it discovered ways to accumulate a high amount of recycled content and utilise it across multiple customised packaging applications.The company has also found multiple methods to reduce waste. It launched a system to treat phosphogypsum — an industrial by-product — and made it suitable for use in the cement industry.Hindalco has been working to modernise freight transportation for the Indian Railways. A new-generation of aluminium wagons has been made from high-strength aluminium alloy and extrusions. Around 180 tonnes lighter than existing steel rakes, each of these wagons can carry up to 10% more payload while consuming less energy. More importantly, it can save over 14,500 tonnes of CO2, thereby contributing to the nation’s carbon goals in a big way.Hindalco's innovations also impact the life of consumers, such as aluminium alloy circles that make coated cookware stronger and LPG cylinders safer. Cans are one of the key applications of aluminium alloys globally. However, the know-how to develop world-class can body stock speedily and at high volumes did not exist in India earlier. Hindalco introduced this technology to India.The display of entrepreneurial spirit in making products that meet the constantly evolving needs of the industry is what makes Hindalco a global leader that stays resilient and sustainable.

Also known as bauxite residue, red mud is generated in millions of tonnes every year in alumina refineries and stored on hundreds of acres of land. The disposal of red mud has been a legacy environmental challenge for the industry worldwide.&nbsp;Until Hindalco came up with a solution.Hindalco looked at red mud for its intrinsic value. After all, it is high in minerals such as aluminium and iron oxides. Hindalco found that it could be used in road construction or brickmaking. However, these solutions were not scalable. What was needed was a scalable solution.The Hindalco team was aware that the cement industry often uses bauxite in the manufacturing of cement. Moreover, there are significant similarities in the properties of bauxite and red mud.The next step was convincing cement manufacturers that red mud was a good alternative to bauxite. Hindalco worked with the cement sector to find solutions to several technical and operational challenges. Issues with moisture content, alkalinity, flowability, and transportation were resolved one by one.Hindalco also engaged with the Indian Railways and NITI Aayog for lower freight rates to transport higher volumes of red mud. The company partnered with top cement manufacturers in India to transport all the red mud produced at its plants in Renukoot, Muri, and Belagavi to dozens of cement plants across India.This move is a stellar example of sustainability. It is a scalable business solution that also helps in achieving environmental goals. It blends circular economy principles with value maximisation, reduces business risk for aluminium manufacturers, and reduces the need to mine natural resources. The measure has boosted Hindalco’s international stature and brought it recognition as the World’s Most Sustainable Aluminium Company for three years in a row in S&amp;P Dow Jones’ Sustainability Indices report.This innovative solution from Hindalco to deal with a 130-year-old industry-wide challenge is one that is a win-win for society, the environment, and two large industrial sectors.
