From woods to wardrobes: the journey of sustainable fashion yarn
- Copy
Raysil, Grasim Industries’ Viscose Filament Yarn (VFY) brand, has an interesting manufacturing journey, starting from its origins in sustainable forestry.
Best quality wood pulp is responsibly sourced from sustainable and traceable forests to make cellulosic yarnsthat are 100 per cent natural. The completely biodegradable yarns are then carefully woven to create a wide range of fabrics that are extremely skin-friendly and comfortable.
From the raw material to the finished product, Raysil follows a path which originates in the woods and concludes in your wardrobe.
Wood
Raysil is produced from softwood and hardwood of sustainable and traceable forests, and hence has a 100 per cent natural origin.
Pulp
The responsibly sourced wood is converted into pulp by our renowned suppliers across the world.
Yarn
Raysil fashion yarns are made at state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, with a production capacity of 48,000 TPA. These facilities are equipped with the best of industrial technologies and conform to environmental, safety, occupational health & social accountability standards.
Fabric
Raysil yarns are woven to create 100 per cent natural and evergreen fashion fabrics – you may know them better as georgettes, crepes, chiffons, Uppada silk and other blended fabrics.
Wardrobe
Garments made from Raysil fabrics are unmatched in elegance due to their rich lustre, colour depth, excellent drape and comfort. Raysil fabrics are used to make Indian ethnic wear, fusion wear across work, casual, occasion, and bridal categories and home textiles.
From wood to wardrobe, Raysil’s manufacturing process upholds the concept of green fashion and is in line with the business’s core sustainability values. In fact, Grasim is the first VFY player in India to be accredited with Forest Stewardship Council – COC certification.
Grasim’s sustainability vision is aligned to its industry leadership position. In September 2020, Century Rayon (CTIL) and Indian Rayon integrated to make it a leading manufacturer of VFY in India and third largest globally. The company possesses all three available technologies for VFY production, viz. pot spun, continuous, and spool spun technology. It is also equipped to adopt best industry practices and serve its customers with a synergised product and service offering.
Grasim is also India’s largest VFY exporter and caters to nearly 45 countries spreading the message of sustainable fashion worldwide. It offers premium, versatile and sustainable yarns to the ever-changing world of fashion and is ready to scale new heights.
