Aditya Birla Group is a leading player across cellulosic fibres, textiles, chemicals and carbon black industry in Thailand.
Thailand was the first country where Aditya Birla Group set up its overseas operation. In 1969, Mr. Aditya Vikram Birla made history by setting up Indo Thai Synthetics in Thailand. This success fuelled the Group's rise as the first homegrown Indian multinational.
Indo Thai Synthetics is Thailand’s leading synthetic yarn spinner and the largest exporter of synthetic yarn from Thailand with a 50% share in the total synthetic spun yarn exports from Thailand.
Aditya Birla Chemicals (Thailand) Ltd. (ABCTL) is a part of the group’s chemical business and is engaged in the production of major chemical groups, such as chlor-alkali, epichlorohydrin, epoxy resins, phosphates and sulphites.
The unit has four main divisions:
Phosphates Division
Established in 1984, the Phosphates division has successfully transformed itself from being solely a technical grade producer to one offering a high-performance speciality range of functional food ingredients. Today, it is the largest single-location player in Asia Pacific.
Advanced Materials
With a reach that spans over 90 countries, Aditya Birla Chemicals’ (Thailand) Advanced Materials division is among the top 3 epoxy players in the world. With the acquisition of the award-winning patented Recyclamine technology in 2019, Advanced Materials has entered the vitality dimension with vigor.
Sulphites Division
Aditya Birla Chemicals’ (Thailand) Sulphites Division is the largest producer of powdered Sulphites in the world and offers products like sodium sulphite, sodium metabisulphite, catalyzed sodium sulphite, to various industries and applications like mining, water treatment, pulp & paper, etc.
Chlor-Alkali Division
The Chlor-Alkali Division (CAD) of ABCTL serves as raw material for Aditya Birla Group’s other businesses in Thailand, besides being the largest exporter of chlorine to ASEAN and Australia regions.
In Thailand, Aditya Birla Chemicals has 3 facilities spanning Rayong, Samutprakarn, and Saraburi.
Thai Rayon, promoted by Grasim Industries Limited, India, an Aditya Birla Group company, and local Thai entrepreneurs, is the pioneer as well as sole manufacturer of Viscose Staple Fibre (VSF) in Thailand. The company was incorporated in 1974 and has been listed on the Thailand Stock Exchange since 1984. Almost two-third of Thai Rayon's VSF production is directly exported to more than 20 countries worldwide.
Birla Carbon, the carbon black flagship of Aditya Birla Group, has an office in Pathumwan (Bangkok) and a manufacturing unit in Angthong.
